The recognition of Astronism is the area of study within geoastronology and the set of responsibilities undertaken by The Institution of The Philosophy of Millettism to have Astronism be recognised as either a religion or as an organised philosophy in a particular sovereign state.
The official recognition of the presence of Astronism in a country must involve senior representatives of the state. The formal event through which recognition of Astronism is granted is known as a recognitory. Often, after the recognition of Astronism has taken place, the country will include Astronism as an option in its census of religious adherence.
One of the main hallmarks of Astronism's recognition by the government of a country is its inclusion in the census of that country and although there may be exceptions to this, generally, if Astronism is recognised, it will appear on the census.
- Recognised –– state has officially recognised Astronism as a religion
- Unrecognised –– state has not officially recognised Astronism as a religion
- Disrecognised –– state once recognised Astronism but no longer recognises it as a religion
The recognition of Astronism a religion or philosophy in a country is important because this type of recognition allows for institutional protections for Astronists. Recognition of a religion is therefore one of the main responsibilities of the Astronist Institution in name of achieving freedom of religion for as many Astronists as possible.
