An observatory is a more common type of sopharium than an eidouranium and grand observatory, although they still retain their prestige due to their greater size, architectural uniqueness, and functionality compared to their planetarium cousins. Observatories are most commonly found in larger towns and cities and are considered the focal point of Millettism in such areas if there are no eidouraniums or grand observatories in the vicinity.
